The Castle of San Miguel is dated back the the phoenician era, afterwards it was a roman fortress, since there are remains that confirm it. This fortress castle has lived written historic episodes in the History of Almuñecar, that are conserved in the Mueseo Arqueologico (archeology museum). After the arabic denomination, in which this fortress was a key ingredient to the entrance of Abderraman I, and in the return of Omar Ben Hafsun...Deeds in which he actively participated in, this fortress castle (Castillo Fortaleza) was also a palace for a few sultans.
After the 1489 Treaty, the castle was passed over to form part of the Cristian kingdom. |
