Phoenicians, Romans, Muslims, and Christians have lived on these lands from centuries before Christ. This variety has left behind many historical monuments. For this reason, a tour around Almuñecar isn´s just a tour, but a travel through time, through many different civilizations. There isn´t a better place to begin our tour than from the old town, the historic center that still has a phoenician flair. In the historic center you´ll find the Castillo de San Miguel, in which we see cobble stone roads, that one day were roman roads. White houses with a muslim touch...It´s easy to get lost through so many streets, but it´s so beautiful it´s worth it.
The old town is also a place where we find a the factories where the Romans used to cure the fish, as well as the Archeological Museum of the city. In the museum you´ll find the history of this city. In Almuñecar you can´t miss seeing the arab vigilance towers, the archeological museum, the phoenican Necropolis of Puente de Noy, and the roman aqueduct or factory of cured fish, besides everything mentioned earlier. |
